Privacy policy
Effective September 22, 2026. Last updated October 8, 2026.
Tidings & Company, LLC (“Tidings,” “we,” “us”) of 225 Depot Street, Duxbury, Massachusetts 02332 helps one family member prepare the printed booklet for a funeral or other family occasion, tell relatives and friends about the services, and keep the details of the day on one web page. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Who this policy covers
Three kinds of people come into contact with Tidings: organizers, the family members who open an account to prepare an occasion; recipients, the relatives and friends whose phone numbers an organizer gives us so that they can be told about the services; and visitors, who read an event page or this website. This policy covers all three.
Information we collect from organizers
When you open an account we collect your name and email address. There is no password: you sign in by a link we email you. When you prepare an occasion we collect what you enter about the person being honored and the services: names, dates, the church or other venue, clergy and participants, readings and music, words of remembrance if you include them, photographs you upload, and the text of the announcement. If you order a printed booklet we collect the delivery address, and our payment processor collects your payment details; we never see or store card numbers. We also receive the technical information described under “Automatic collection” below.
Information we collect about recipients
An organizer may type the mobile numbers, and optionally the names, of relatives and friends who should be told about the services, so that Tidings can send them the announcement from our number. We collect nothing about those people from anywhere else: no contact lists are read from a phone, and no numbers are bought, rented or scraped. We keep the number and name with the occasion’s records, to send the announcement and any correction or note the organizer asks for and to record whether the number has opted out, and for nothing else. We do not sell or rent recipients’ numbers and we do not add them to any marketing list. A number that has replied STOP is kept on our opt-out list so that it is never texted again, from any family.
Automatic collection
Like most websites we receive the IP address, browser and device type, the pages viewed and the time of each visit. We use a cookie to keep organizers signed in. We do not use advertising cookies, we do not track visitors across other sites, and we do not sell browsing data.
How we use information
To provide the service: to prepare and print the booklet, to send the announcement on the organizer’s behalf, to publish the event page with the visibility the organizer chooses, and to send the organizer the emails the service needs (the sign-in link, order notices, and replies from the people we texted for her). To send the parish the family’s selections when the organizer asks us to. To keep the service secure and prevent misuse. To comply with law. We do not use the information for advertising, and we do not use it to train artificial-intelligence models.
Text messages
At an organizer’s request we send text messages from our number, (781) 926-1235, through Twilio, our messaging provider. Each recipient receives at most a few messages about one occasion: the announcement, a correction if the time or place changes, and at most one note afterwards. Every message begins with the organizer’s name and ends with “Sent by Tidings & Company for the family. Reply STOP to opt out.” Anyone may reply STOP to any message to stop all messages from Tidings, or HELP for our contact details; our SMS terms have the details. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Sharing with the providers that carry the messages for us is permitted; all other use of mobile numbers and consent information is excluded, and that information is not shared with any other third party. Organizers may also send the announcement from their own phones; those are their own messages and are not covered by this policy.
Who we share information with
Service providers who act on our instructions and may not use the information for their own purposes: the companies that host the service and its database, send our email, carry our text messages (Twilio), process payments, render and print the booklets, and deliver them. The parish or other place of worship, when the organizer asks us to send it the family’s selections. The funeral home, when the organizer chooses to share the event details with it. The people the organizer chooses to share the event page with, according to the visibility she sets. Authorities, when the law requires it. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers.
The event page
The organizer decides who can see the event page and each of its sections: everyone, people with the link, or only the people she tells. Pages are not listed in search engines unless the organizer chooses to allow it. She can change the visibility or take the page down at any time.
How long we keep information
Account information is kept while the account is open. The occasion’s details, booklet and photographs are kept for one year after the services, or for as long as the organizer chooses to keep them in her account, and she can delete them at any time; before the year ends we ask once whether to keep them, and if there is no answer they are deleted. Keeping an occasion lets a family reprint its booklet later. The numbers of the people we texted are kept with the occasion and deleted with it, except that a number that has opted out stays on our opt-out list so that we never message it again. Order records (what was ordered, when, and what was paid) are kept for seven years as the law requires; if you close your account, your name and contact details are removed from them.
Your choices and rights
Organizers can see, correct and delete the information in their account, and can delete an occasion and its page, from the account itself or by emailing privacy@tidingsandcompany.com. Recipients can stop messages by replying STOP, and can ask what we hold about their number, or ask us to delete it, by emailing the same address; we answer within 30 days. Residents of states whose privacy laws give further rights (to know, to delete, to correct, or to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information) may exercise them by the same route; we do not sell or share personal information for advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of on that count.
Children
Tidings is for adults arranging family occasions. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, other than a name that appears in a booklet or an announcement because the family included it.
Security
We use encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and providers who hold recognized security certifications. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information we will tell you as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy we will post the new version here with a new date and, for material changes, tell account holders by email.
